iPhone Visual Voicemail is down for everyone in the USA
The outage is across the entire country. I just got off the phone with AT&T. It has been happening since 2hours ago. You will not be able to visually get your voicemails. There is another way...dial your iPhone phone number and then press *. You will be able to access them then. I talked to the customer service person on the phone. She said this is a big outage. Everyone iPhone owner in the USA is affected by this. I was not given and ETA to when this will be fixed. Labels: iPhone

The Iphone Post: Day 1
Hey Guys after one day of iPhone use I have some observations. Yes I got an iPhone. I even waited online. 1-ATT is not a Friendly company. Apple sales experience is still king. ATT had more problems getting me going. Apple's staff handled everything with a smile. 2-Is the phone faster than my MS Phone. Yes and Yes. Even with some of the reported slow-ups (I.E. Contacts taking a 1-3 secs to give me control). 3-The Slow-Ups: From what I observed every time you go into Contacts, Calendar, Email the display shows and control to the user is delayed. This is the result of the phone trying to go on the web looking for updates. I can understand for pop and if you have not updated the Contacts, Calendar or Email account. However I am using Exchange. Exchange does not need to do an update. It is push. Push only updates when there is a new item. The implementation seems to be flawed in that it is not need to connect to the network every time you access the Contacts, Calendar or Email account. 4-Battery: Wow I was amazed the battery life. It lasted about 2-3 hours longer than my MS device. I did not charge it during the day. It got nervously close to empty, but the battery meter was very accurate. 5-Things missing: Cut and Paste. Can't sort email. Can't snooze alerts. I use Cut and Paste all the time on my MS Phone. What am I going to do on the iPhone? 6-What I like: The Web. The Web. The Web. Wow, as advertised I get the entire web. And it works. Visual Voicemail...very cool. Slick fast interface. Even when it is slow it speeds back up within 1 to 2 secs. What else? What else? Well I think that is good for Day 1. Stay tuned for Day2.

First Time Mac user...Long time PC user
Friday of last week I purchase a new MacBook Pro 2.6GHz 4Gig Ram 200Gig 7200RPM HD. I have to say I had my best shopping experience purchasing a computer yet. The sales person was kind and nice and did not rush me. He know what I wanted. I purchased this as I wanted to get into using a UNIX oriented machine. I wanted the capabilities of running multiple OS's. I wanted to reuse my OS from my Tablet PC. I have an HP TC1100. So far the out of box experience was very good. I was up and running in no time. It was so fast that I was wondering why it was. Then I thought about and I realized that I did not have to uninstall anything. Wow what a difference. Whenever I have gotten a PC I have always had to uninstall or rebuild the entire system. Nice change here. I setup Time Machine to back up on my Linksys NAS Server. I have this small linux device that connects to two 500Gig HD's. The drives are setup to mirror. In order for Time Machine to see teh drive I have to enable a hidden option. It was easy search google, then copy the one line and paste into Terminal. No biggy. I have had some issues with ejecting CD's. While I love the slot loading drive I wish there was away to force the CD out. I had to restart a couple of times as the MacBook Pro (MacBaby for short) said that a process had a hold on the cd. I have installed VMWare Fusion. The install was a bit stupid as I had to download a full update and then install again. When I created a expanding VM for XP, after a couple of reboots I got an error on boot. The error said it could not read the disk. I deleted it and started with non-expanded one. I have tried using teh VM Convert utility to convert my Tablet PC to a VM, but it got an error reading from disk too. If anyone knows of a solution for this please contact me.

AOL & AIM another Bloatware
I just installed AIM 6.0. 35Meg of bloatware. I started it up and aolsoftware.exe took over my computer. CPU 100%. I had to hit the power button to restart. What gives here. AIM is only an instant msg client. Why in the world does it need to have aol software running eating memory. I have to admit i get calls all the time with people's pc's slow and the problem is aol software. I uninstalled it and they thank me. Wow how did you make my pc so fast. I will use and recommend something else. AOL thanks for putting money in my pocket.

ATT Tilt...I had to do another reset.
I was trying to surf the web. Just going to google. The webpage came back blank. I reset the phone and I was able to get to google. What I did notice is that the server went from G to E. While in E I got the black page. When I reset it still it still was at E, but I got to the web page.

ATT Tilt...The Next day...
Yesterday I took the Tilt to the gym and was happy with the 3G support. It is fast. However it takes a bit for the requested webpage to be "Located". On the bottom of the web browser it says "Locating". After it locates the website it displays the web page quickly. 3G is the way to go. 3G is the future. I am sold. I have also paired the device with a H700 headset. The voice quality was ok. I would say the same as with 8125. My experience with Bluetooth headsets have been mixed. I have notice myself and other people doing this: We use the headset for several days and then we don't want to be bothered any more. I had thought with the new phone my experience would be better, but it is just ok. The sound is not crystal clear, but it is good. Dialing numbers. I had this same experience with the old model. I touch the buttons to dial a number and there is a delay in displaying the number. Also when I go through my voicemails and I press "*" the phone thinks I have pressed "9". Strange...this happened several times. The phone is snapier than the old 8125. Menus come up quicker. One issue I had with old model was that it would stop printing letters on the screen while I was typing a txt or an email. It was very frustrating. All of a sudden the device would freeze. This one does not seem to do it. But I will test it more tomorrow. Tomorrow I will be using it more as it is a business day. Well that is it for today.

I Bought The ATT Tilt...My first impressions.
OK. I had the old 8125. What a slooooooow device. Everything I did on that device was slow. I hated it. I wanted to through it against the wall. However I did get it for free ;) Now for the quick first impression. Yes the tilt is faster. However the software is still strange. While switching to outlook email I started to scroll. Tried it again...no scroll. Strange. I used the D-pad...no scroll. I used the tilt function and then the arrow keys on the keyboard...no scroll. I reset the device...ok now the scroll works. I have had the device less than a day and I had to reset it. I know I know I sound be patient. But let me compare it to my Blackberry 8800...scroll aways worked. It is always responsive. I have so far never had to reset it. Luckily I have a 30 day return policy on the ATT Tilt. I guess I am frustrated with expensive technology that does not work as expected. Oh and how come with version 6 of Windows Mobile Profession and Exchange 2007 I can't sync notes? This is the year 2007...Blackberry can sync notes. Ugh..MS...MS.

Personal Tech Pipeline | Firefox Uses The Old 'It's-Not-A-Bug-It's-A-Feature' Routine
Personal Tech Pipeline | Firefox Uses The Old 'It's-Not-A-Bug-It's-A-Feature' RoutineI have been having memory issues with Firefox too. It is a hog. I leave it on and it uses up memory. I close it and it stays in memory. I have to constantly check the task manager to see that is gone. So I have downloaded opera today. And I like it so far. I will leave it on and see if it behaves the same (I hope not) as Firefox.
